Scholarships Graduate School The Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC) is the UK's provider of large scale inter-disciplinary research infrastructures and their supporting technologies, which enable UK researchers to investigate the world we live in and understand the building blocks of the Universe
The e-Science Centre supports the work of world class scientific facilities and a person is required to develop software to support STFC and UK academic scientists.
The Scientific Computing Technology (SCT) group currently has a vacancy for a highly motivated individual to join a team specialising in Software Development
Your main responsibility will be to develop and maintain leading edge software for National (NGS) and International (EGI) grid/cloud projects. These
Scholarships Graduate School projects involve novel and varied IT challenges and you will be required to take responsibility for managing your own work, a small team of developers and collaborating in National and International activities.
You will report to the Scientific Computing Technology Group Leader and have interactions with STFC Scientists and their collaborators
Qualifications
Essential:
Degree in a scientific discipline or relevant experience
Knowledge and Experience
Essential:
Proven programming ability preferably in one or more of Java , C, C++, Perl
Desirable: (any 2 or more)
Scholarships Graduate School Experience of Software development lifecycle. Experience in writing end-user documentation Experience of IT Security, especially X509 Certification Experience in using or deploying Grid/Cloud Middleware. Experience in Project Management Experience of user support role (1st - 3rd line) Experience in managing a small team of developers Experience of developing software for business critical applications Experience in basic system administration on Windows or UNIX/Linux systems.
Personal skills/qualities

Good Communication skills both verbal and written (evidence of publications or presentations needed) Good Organisational Skills Proactive attitude to problem solving Ability to work independently and within a team
Special Requirements
Desirable:
