Scholarship Description: Dr James Martin, of the James Martin 21st Century School, is generously supporting two new research fellows to join the Oxford stem cell community at the Oxford Stem Cell Institute (OSCI). The posts will be fixed-term for 24 months, with the expectation that external funding at career development fellow level to be sought within the first year. (Such fellowships are offered by the Wellcome Trust, MRC and Royal Society, amongst others.)
Applicants must be sponsored by a member of OSCI who has agreed to offer them adequate facilities if they are successful in their application. Consequently, they should discuss their research plans with one or more members of OSCI at an early stage, and should provide a letter of sponsorship at the time of application.
The field of research must either be the biology of mammalian stem cells or the use of stem cells to solve otherwise intractable problems in biology or medicine.
Applicants should have at least three years and no more than six years of postdoctoral experience.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate significant scientific productivity and potential, and propose to undertake innovative, original and independent research.
A £20k p.a. research expense allowance will be provided. The fellows will be members of both the Oxford Stem Cell Institute and the James Martin 21st Century School. They will have access to the stem cell facility and the opportunity to apply for small discretionary grants from OSCI during their first year of appointment.
